LogoFLEXfinalThe FLEX Program was founded in 1993 and is funded by the US Department of State‚Äôs Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.  This public diplomacy initiative aims to build mutual understanding between the US and the people of Eastern and Southeastern Europe and Central Asia by providing exchange opportunities to high school students from approximately twenty counties.  These FLEX scholars undergo a rigorous merit-based scholarship application process and are selected for their leadership potential and drive to engage in intercultural understanding.  FLEX scholars are between 15 and 17 years of age and spend one academic year living with an American host family and attending school.  They are highly motivated, have good academics, and are committed to spending their exchange year learning about American society and values, acquiring leadership skills, and helping educate Americans about their countries and cultures.
