Winner: Sara from Lebanon, living in Ohio
Sara is a hardworking young woman who has been devoted to her community since she arrived in the United States. According to her Local Coordinator, Sara has said that “Being involved is the easiest way to make this year an unforgettable one.”
Sara has completed over 100 hours of volunteer work! She has achieved this by serving breakfast, playing games with senior citizens, and running game booths at the local festival to raise money for a recreation center. She also helps teach young girls how to play soccer multiple times a week.
At school Sara earned the Promethean Award for Outstanding Achievement because she maintained above a 3.9 GPA all year. She is part of the newspaper staff and has her own column where she writes about what it is like being an international student. She is also on the dance and tennis teams, Student Council, and is involved with the International Club.
On the right Sara is pictured with her host family who she enjoys spending time with and cooking traditional Lebanese food for. Sara, thank you for your dedication and passion; keep up the good work!
Runner-Up: Andrea from Venezuela, living in South Dakota
A creative and humble young woman, Andrea’s positive attitude and willingness to help has made her an asset to her community. She has been keeping busy by running for the track team and singing in the choir at school. As a result of getting straight A’s in school, she earned an academic letter. Andrea volunteers with the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) to help those in need and was a student aide for the local second grade class. She also volunteered with LifeScape, helping serve food to those with disabilities. With the help of her host mom, she sewed her own prom dress, pictured to the left. Andrea, thank you for your kindness and helping hand, we really appreciate it!
