Student of the Month – December 2015

Martina has truly been making the most of her time in the U.S. Both smart and talented, Martina has made honor roll for her academics and received a number of recognitions for her involvement with volleyball. She won Player of the Match for 3 games in one semester for her school. With her team, she also earned 3rd place in the Gold Medal City Round and second team All City. Because of her success here, Martina was one of three girls in her state invited to try out for the USA Junior Nationals Team (her host sister was selected too)! Between her achievements in sports at school and on a Toledo City League, her playing has garnered the attention of college scouts and a city newspaper that wrote an article featuring her.

In addition to the hours of dedication she puts into volleyball, Martina makes time for community service, which she loves. Martina also spends a lot of time with her host
family, cooking Slovakian meals for them when she can. Martina’s host family speaks highly of this time together, saying “we feel happiness in our hearts for having this opportunity to host such an amazing young lady.” They also note that Martina is “so full of life and very appreciative to be in the United States.” Martina’s Local Coordinator agrees that the joy and gratitude Martina feels for her host family and for the opportunity to experience life in the U.S. is evident in Martina’s face, her actions, and her words.

Congratulations on your success Martina, and thanks for your appreciation, generosity, and hard work!
