Student of the Month – December 2016

Olha has enthusiastically jumped right into life in Ohio and has been keeping busy ever since she arrived! She has been spending her time doing community service, playing in the school band drum line, cooking cultural dishes, and trying new sports, such as basketball and softball.

She is especially passionate about volunteering and community service. She volunteered with TOPS, an after school program sponsored by the YMCA, made meals and served the homeless with her church, and collected books going to Kenya for the “Education for All” YES/FLEX-led campaign at Leah’s Library. Olha has dedicated over 160 hours of volunteer service since August!

Olha had the amazing opportunity to meet with her congressional representative, Marcy Kaptur, as part of her participation in the Young Women of Excellence program and tell her all about FLEX, ACES, and her country. Olha even got involved in local politics when she wrote a bill that she presented to congress in Ohio.

Thanks, Olha! Your dedication and thoughtfulness really make a difference in the lives around you!
