Student of the Month – January 2016

The first word Naufal’s Local Coordinator had to say about him was “WOW!!” and she has been just as impressed ever since. Naufal truly makes the most out of his exchange experience, immersing himself in volunteering, school, choir, theater, and life with his host family and friends.

Naufal has a volunteer spirit that is evident in everything he does. In addition to being a member of the Serve and Learn Student Association where he both volunteers and helps other students find opportunities to volunteer, Naufal helps out however he can. From waking up at 5 am to set up instruments in marching band to working around his house or neighborhood, he is ready with a smile to assist wherever he is needed.

When he’s not volunteering, Naufal spends much of his time singing or playing guitar. He has performed multiple solos at school choir concerts, and recently landed a lead part alongside his host brother in his school musical The Music Man. He and his host brother also recently started a quartet at their school.

Despite his busy schedule, Naufal maintains an “A” average in school and has an excellent relationship with his host family. He also makes sure to spend a lot of time connecting with others around him. In feedback to ACES, Naufal explained why he finds this connection so significant: “It’s important to know each other. Based on my holy book (Quran) God said that he creates all living things different for us (humans) to know each other and make a new relationship with new people.”

We at ACES appreciate all that you do Naufal. Your kindness and dedication make you an excellent cultural ambassador!
