Youth Ambassador Exchange (YAE) Short Term Programs

ACES recognizes the imperative of global education in our increasingly interdependent and interconnected world and believes that the development of global citizenship should begin as early as possible. One of the most important tools in training our students as citizens of the world is to offer international exchange opportunities – such as through the Youth Ambassador Exchange (YAE).

The YAE program brings small groups of middle school and high school students from around the world to the US for 2-4 week sessions. The groups are chaperoned by a teacher or administrator from the sending school/organization, who will also serve as a cultural and educational resource for the host community. The YAE programs can take place during the school year or during the summer.

Selected students are ambassadors of their country and region and thus should be mature, curious and ready to participate in the daily life of a typical American host family. Students who fully immerse themselves in their American experience find that their English substantially improves, they have greater understanding of the United States and American culture, and that they feel more confident in their daily lives.

YAE programs could include volunteer hours to give back to the host community, peer language partners to improve students’ English, a farewell celebration to thank the host community, interactive activities, or a sightseeing tour at the end of the program.

YAE School Program

If coming during the school year, the international student will shadow their host sibling or another American teen at their local middle or high school during the day and will participate in family activities in the evenings and on weekends.

YAE Summer Program

During the summer, the international students get to join their host family in whatever activities they are planning – from baking at home, to hiking in a nearby park, to volunteering in the community!
