On Wednesday, July 10, all 22 of us in the Beginning Group climbed the City Wall of Xi’an. Though it was blazing hot, the skies were blue and at least there was a modest breeze. Some of the students walked while many others rented bicycles. The Xi’an City Wall is actually the most complete Chinese city wall that has survived to the present day and it’s one of the most ancient city walls in the world. Completed during the Ming Dynasty in 1370, it is a total of 9 miles in perimeter and circles the entire central part of Xi’an. The Xi’an City Wall is 40 feet tall, 40 feet wide, and has four main gates and a deep moat surrounding it. Here follow a number of photos of us on the way to and on the Xi’an City Wall:
